On Tuesday, July 27th, Trinity Walls joins us to chat about spider behavior and to bust spider myths!
Trinity is an Arachnologist who specializes in mating behavior in jumping spiders (particularly Phidippus regius), and she knows quite a bit about spider behavior in general.
Hello! I am a 3rd year PhD candidate (going into my 4th year) at the University of California Berkeley studying how mate choice patterns shift over time and how these shifts affect hybridization. I am originally from North Carolina and have always been fascinated by spiders. The more I learned about them, the more I realized much of the widely circulated information about them was false and I sought to study them myself.
Thankfully I was able to study orb-weavers in Puerto Rico during undergrad, wolf spiders during my Masters in Ohio, and now jumping spiders in Berkeley. My passion for spiders also intersects well with my social nature as talking to the public about spiders is high on my priority list. I am happiest when I am either in the field searching for spiders, conversing with my lab members, or engaging in outreach activities. I strive to encourage others to value the benefits spiders provide as well as delight in their diverse colors and behaviors. I also use spiders as a lens to highlight and facilitate appreciation for not only the benefits and beauty of diversity in entomology but diversity in society as well.
We go live July 27th at 6pm EDT!
